Carlos Corberan confirmed another player could be out of action until January

West Brom: Carlos Corberan shares update on Daryl Dike return date
Carlos Corberan has shared an update on when he expects Daryl Dike to be back involved with the West Brom side this season.

Speaking to BirminghamLive on Tuesday (19 September), the Albion boss said the US international could be missing until late December or early January.

After the 23-year-old has been out with a ruptured Achilles since April, the Spaniard revealed that the forward wasn’t in his plans until January when he was looking to bring players in during the summer transfer window.

“It will be late December or early January when the process finishes with Dike,” said Corberan. “I prepared the squad without thinking of Dike until January.”

Lacking options

Although the update on Dike’s recovery isn’t what many fans would have hoped to hear, it probably won’t come as too much of a surprise.

It was quite a serious injury that he suffered and there is no way the club can afford to rush him back and potentially risk his career moving forward.

But Albion have been left with a real lack of options up front after it was revealed that Josh Maja is set to be out for the next two months with an ankle injury.

That leaves Brandon Thomas-Asante as the only first-team forward available, with one of the wingers expected to provide an alternative option if he is unavailable for any reason.

Once Dike and Maja do return to the fold, however, that will mean the Baggies have three solid options to choose from, but it’s going to take some time before that point is reached.
