Coventry City confirm another ‘significant’ injury blow ahead of Huddersfield Town test

Coventry City injury news from CoventryLive as Sky Blues boss Mark Robins has more bad news from the medical room at Ryton.
Coventry City have suffered another injury blow with the news that Milan van Ewijk has sustained a “significant” muscle tear. The impressive Sky Blues wing-back limped off the field in the 53rd minute at Cardiff on Tuesday night after feeling pain in his thigh, and the initial prognosis is a tear to his quad.

Manager Mark Robins is now waiting on detailed scan results to be assessed to see the extent of the damage and give him an idea of exactly how long the Dutch player is likely to be sidelined. The injury comes as a major setback for the team because the summer signing has been one of the standout performers of the new recruits so far this term.

It comes days after Robins confirmed that influential midfielder Ben Sheaf has been ruled out for a minimum of six weeks. Asked about Van Ewijk’s condition, Robins said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Monday night’s CBS Arena clash with Huddersfield Town: “It’s not good, not good! There’s a significant tear in his quad so I don’t know how long he’s going to be.

“He’s not presenting too much in terms of symptoms but the scan suggests he has a significant tear. So we’re just waiting for that to be read by the radiologist and we’ll get that report sometime this morning (Fri), but that doesn’t look good.”

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto is the obvious choice of player to replace Van Ewijk but there have been question marks about the defensive side of the Japan international’s game.
