Daniel Farke now hints at who will replace Joe Rodon for Leeds against Watford

Daniel Farke has hinted that Liam Cooper will be the man to replace Joe Rodon at centre-back for Leeds United tomorrow.

Farke was speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Watford where he was asked on who he would be bringing in for the suspended Rodon.

Rodon will serve a one-match ban for the red card he picked up in Leeds’ 0-0 draw with Hull City on Wednesday, a dismissal that left Farke fuming with the referee due to his first yellow card.

Cooper and Charlie Cresswell are Farke’s two options to replace the Welshman at centre-back, with the former having been preferred on the bench at Hull.

That said, Cresswell would be the more natural replacement in this case, as he is right-footed and would therefore provide Leeds with more balance when playing out from the back.

Farke hints at who will replace Rodon for Leeds

Speaking in his press conference, Farke has hinted that Cooper will be the one to get the nod by suggesting that it ‘doesn’t always matter’ if you play a centre-back pairing that are the same foot.

He said: “The most important topic is the quality of the player. We have had two right-footers in the past. Doesn’t always matter if we have two with the same foot. Germany won the World Cup with two right-footers.”

If Cooper was the man to come in, it is likely that Pascal Struijk will be shifted across to right centre-back, which would be disappointing considering the rhythm he has built on the left.

It would also be a real blow to Cresswell’s hopes of getting any sort of first team football at Leeds this season given that he would be more of a natural replacement.

Rodon and Struijk had been building a really good partnership alongside one another and hopefully it can be rekindled after the game with Watford.
