Dan Neil’s response Sunderland fans will love after Liverpool and Burnley transfer links on deadline day

Dan Neil discusses his Premier League ambitions with Sunderland, following reports of Premier League interest in the midfielder.

Despite interest from top-flight teams in recent months, Dan Neil believes Sunderland can reach the Premier League.

Burnley and Liverpool were connected with a deadline-day move for the 21-year-old midfielder, who certainly has a lot of admirers, but Sunderland did not receive an official bid.

The Black Cats are also in a good position after Neil agreed to a contract extension until 2026 earlier this year.

When asked about his hopes for the Premier League with Sunderland, Neil told the Echo: “That’s why I signed the deal, I love the philosophy here.”

Listen, when the philosophy came in, I landed on my feet because I was an 18-year-old youngster on the outskirts of the first squad.

“I can’t thank the club enough for giving me invaluable experience week in and week out for the last two, three years, including a promotion and nearly another.”

“I have complete confidence in this team. I know it appears youthful on paper, but I believe we are more than capable of competing at the top of the table and, perhaps, returning to the Premier League.”

 

Neil has made 115 senior appearances for Sunderland since making his senior debut in November 2018 during an EFL Trophy encounter.

Last season, he made 47 Championship appearances, including play-offs, and has started all nine league games for Tony Mowbray’s side this season.
