Leeds United player ratings as Rutter, Gray and Byram stand out in Bristol City win

All tens for Leeds United at Elland Road following their Championship meeting with Bristol City on Saturday afternoon, with Daniel James and Joel Piroe scoring the game-winning goals.

Leeds United (4-2-3-1)

1 Illan Meslier

Another match spent observing his team-mates, largely. Came and cleared out a couple of set-pieces, but may have wanted better of himself with the first-half equaliser. 6

22 Archie Gray

A first game for the first team at right-back, but you would not have believed it. Outstanding. Never put a foot wrong and kept a tricky Sam Bell pocketed. So much poise and awareness of what’s going on around him. 8

14 Joe Rodon

Another very solid outing for the Wales international. Completely untroubled throughout the afternoon. 7

21 Pascal Struijk (c)

First touch and weight of pass looked a little ropey in the opening 20 minutes, but the captain grew into the game. Got the team out of a couple of scrapes and starting generating attacks with his distribution as the match opened up. 7

25 Sam Byram

A return to his best form of the season for Byram. Judges when to defend and when to attack so well. Always seems to offer an option to the defenders or attackers in the side. Massive block on the line in the final 15 minutes to keep Leeds in front. Another massive block in the final five minutes to stop a volley going in. 8

4 Ethan Ampadu

Just keeps on ticking over. Generally a cut above with his all-around game. Does sometimes have a habit of expecting too much of himself and dribbling into trouble or thinking he has more time than he really does. 7

8 Glen Kamara

Was in danger of running the game at times. Got up to speed with events after missing out on Wednesday and seemed to be a yard ahead of everyone else in his head. Certainly some question marks over his defending for the first-half equaliser. 8

20 Daniel James

After all of the assists he has laid on for others, a goal at last in this campaign for James. Right place and right time to bury it. A strong overall performance from the winger too. Pace was a menace to deal with and he, again, laid on a buffet of chances for others. 7

7 Joel Piroe

A classic of the Piroe genre at Leeds. Does not appear to be involved in a great deal on the field, but several shots on target and a classy goal sum up the role he plays. 7

10 Crysencio Summerville

A trend is developing with Summerville. He started this and Wednesday’s games like a house on fire, filleting the visiting defences, but then fades a touch in the second half. He is still involved and there to get on the end of things, but outright influence on the game wasn’t quite at that sustained level. 7

24 Georginio Rutter

Another spellbinding performance without the goal he would have wanted. Did not quite reach full take-the-mick mode, but a sight to behold in full flow. 8
