Former Newcastle United star lined up for shock return

A surprising comeback is in the works for former Newcastle United icon Chris Waddle, despite being only two months away from his 63rd birthday. The Northern Counties East Premier Division side, Hallam FC, currently facing an injury crisis, is considering urgently enlisting the services of the 62-time England international.

Notably, Sheffield journalist Alan Biggs has suggested the possibility of Waddle returning to the semi-professional football scene, given Hallam FC’s dire circumstances. Biggs stated, “It appears increasingly likely that Chris Waddle may make a comeback in semi-pro football, just a couple of months short of turning 63. Hallam FC, a club at the ninth tier of the English football pyramid, is contemplating reaching out to the former Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Sheffield Wednesday, and England star due to a series of unfortunate injuries.”

Waddle, who maintains a friendly connection with Hallam FC, seems willing to answer their call, given his passion for the game. It’s worth noting that Hallam FC currently faces a shortage of players, with six members of the team nursing severe injuries, resulting in recent matches where they had to compete with only 10 players.

This weekend, Hallam FC is set to return to action in the FA Vase, hosting Coventry United in a Saturday afternoon match. Waddle, who initiated his professional career at Newcastle in 1980 and made 191 appearances before moving to Tottenham Hotspur, may soon find himself back on the pitch in a surprising turn of events.
