Manchester United is said to be considering a move to acquire AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders. This interest comes as Erik ten Hag, the manager, has been highly impressed by Reijnders’ strong performance at the San Siro.
Manchester United has had a difficult start to the 2023/24 season, currently occupying 10th place in the league. They are facing a crucial match against Sheffield United, who are at the bottom of the table, and it’s considered a must-win game. Their record so far includes four wins and four defeats in the Premier League, a situation Ten Hag cannot afford, especially against a team like Sheffield United, who suffered an 8-0 defeat to Newcastle in their last home game.
In fact, United has lost six out of their first 11 matches in all competitions, marking their worst start to a season since 1986. The pressure on Ten Hag is mounting, with some, like Tim Sherwood, attributing Man Utd’s struggles this season to him. Selection problems plague Ten Hag’s squad, and he has been unable to get the best out of expensive summer signing Andre Onana. He swiftly adapted to his new environment, making 10 appearances in various competitions, following his significant contribution to Alkmaar’s journey to the UEFA Conference League semi-finals the previous season. His remarkable performance also earned him a spot in the Netherlands national team, where he has won three caps.
The reports suggest that Reijnders’ exceptional form has piqued the interest of Erik ten Hag, who is eager to secure his countryman. It is rumored that Ten Hag is contemplating a substantial offer of €40 million in 2024 to bring Reijnders to Manchester United. The timing of this offer, whether in January or the following summer, remains unclear. Nevertheless, Milan might be enticed by the prospect of a significant financial gain, potentially doubling their initial investment in the player.
