Liverpool are said to be interested in Boca Juniors starlet Ezequiel Fernandez, who is also desired by AC Milan and Benfica.
The Reds are ‘obsessed’ with signing the 21-year-old, who is likely to transfer to Europe next year after storming onto the scene in Argentina, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
Fernandez, who was developed at FC Barcelona’s legendary La Masia, is widely considered as one of South America’s most fascinating midfield talents, with Liverpool keeping an eye on him.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are set to invest money on a midfielder in January, and South America appears to be the preferred market, with Fluminense’s Andre Trindade also a target.
Indeed, Fernandez would be a less expensive choice than the Brazilian potential, and this recent update appears to indicate that Liverpool is willing to spend for the Boca talent.
However, interest from teams such as Milan and Benfica could pose a concern, especially since both clubs have proven to be outstanding landing sites for elite South American players.
Liverpool will have to battle hard to sign Ezequiel Fernandez
Few teams in South America have a better growth record than Boca, and Fernandez might be the latest figure to depart the Argentine capital for a chance in Europe.
And Liverpool may face a battle to secure Fernandez, with some of the game’s top teams already lining up to recruit the midfielder.
Fernandez will have an exciting January, and Liverpool will need to do everything they can to sign him ahead of Milan and Benfica.
