Breaking News: just In Florida Gators Confirm Another Departure Of Top Star

Ronald Powell, the Florida Gators’ highest-rated recruit during the contemporary recruiting period, died. He was 32.

Powell was the nation’s top overall recruit and the centerpiece of Urban Meyer’s first-place 2010 class. He then spent a portion of the 2015 season on the Bucs’ practice squad.

His playing career was defined in part by what may have been. He was the MVP of the national high school showcase now known as the U.S. Army Bowl, and he was prolific at Florida, starting 21 games in four seasons. But he never lived up to his five-star rating. Powell has 84 tackles (19 for a loss) and 11 sacks with the Gators. The Saints chose the California native in the fifth round.
