Good News: Boston Celtics Confirm The Signing Of Another Experienced Star

Jaden Springer Will Be Traded By Sixers To Celtics
According to sources who spoke with ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (Twitter link), the Sixers and Celtics have agreed to a trade that would send third-year guard Jaden Springer to Boston in return for a second-round selection.

According to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer (Twitter link), Chicago or New York will select the 76ers’ 2024 second-round pick, depending on who is better.

Bobby Marks of ESPN says that Boston plans to acquire Springer with its $6.2MM traded player exception. Joel Embiid will be the lone player on Philadelphia’s roster with a guaranteed deal for 2024–2025 as a result of moving Springer, Marks continues.

Over his first two NBA seasons, Springer, the 28th pick in the 2021 draft, played in just 18 regular season games for a total of 95 minutes. The former Tennessee Volunteer, who is still only 21 years old, has averaged 4.0 points in 11.8 minutes per game while playing in 32 games this season.

With a powerful guard frame at 6’4″ and 204 pounds, Springer excelled defensively in the NBA G League from 2021–2023. In the NBA, he hasn’t contributed much offensively, with a career shooting line of.416/.238/.810.

Springer’s salary this season is $2.2 million, and after the Sixers exercised their option in the last year of his rookie scale contract, he will receive a guaranteed $4 million the following season. Although it’s unlikely that he will play a significant role for Boston this season, the team obviously thinks highly of him as a prospect despite his low cost of acquisition. In 2024–2025, his contract might also be helpful for pay matching.
