Latest Raiders News: Las Vegas Raiders In Talk To Release Another Top Star

Raiders to Release Jerry Tillery, the Defensive Tackle
Next week, the Las Vegas Raiders will be freeing a former first-round pick. The Raiders have notified veteran defensive tackle Jerry Tillery that he would be released on Wednesday, the first day of the new league season, according to an NFL insider story published on Saturday.

Tillery had his best season since the 2021 campaign in 2023. The 27-year-old defensive tackle, who appeared in all 17 games and made six starts, finished with 31 total tackles, two for losses, two sacks, six quarterback hits, and a fumble recovery.

Among his standout games were those in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos, where he totaled three combined tackles and a sack; in Week 10 against the New York Jets, he recorded a season-high four combined tackles; and in Week 15, in the Raiders’ 63-21 victory over Tillery’s previous team, the Los Angeles Chargers, where he totaled three combined tackles, a sack, and a fumble recovery. Of those three bouts, he started all three.

A selection made by the Chargers in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft was Tilllery. In fifty-nine games (29 starts), he amassed 98 combined tackles, 12 for losses, 10.5 sacks, two passes defensed, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and 33 quarterback hits over his more than three seasons with Los Angeles.

In November 2022, Tillery was waived by Los Angeles. Tillery finished the 2022 season with eight games, four of which he started, after being selected by the Raiders. With Tillery gone, Las Vegas will have $3.8 million in cap space. During the NFL Combine, Antonio Pierce, the coach of the Raiders, expressed his intention to add players to the interior defensive line.

In free agency and the draft the following month, there will be no shortage of names to choose from in that position.

The NFL Draft is scheduled for April 25–27, 2024, in Detroit, Michigan. With the 13th overall pick right now, it belongs to the Las Vegas Raiders.
