Breaking News: Los Angeles Rams Confirm As Landing Spot For Top NFL Experienced Star

Los Angeles Rams Are Selected As The “Best Fit” For Known Free Agent
Ahkello Witherspoon might be better off signing with the Los Angeles Rams, according to ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, who evaluated the best fits for the top free agents still available. In order to provide the defensive backfield of the Rams some much-needed bulk and experience, Witherspoon was signed to the roster before training camp began last summer.

This season, the Rams are in a similar situation. According to Barnwell, “Los Angeles signed Witherspoon last offseason, but even though they brought back former waiver wire success story Darious Williams, their depth chart doesn’t have the sort of big cornerback they sought out.”

Among cornerbacks with 100 or more targets, Witherspoon’s completion percentage of 48.1 was the lowest in the NFL, making him the best starting defensive back for the Rams. With 106 targets, he ranked fourth in the league last season as one of the most targeted corners. He was frequently tested deep by quarterbacks, which led to five touchdowns given up. With three interceptions and fourteen passes deflected, Witherspoon led the team.

Although Kamren Curl and Williams have given the Rams more defensive backfield depth, the position isn’t as urgent now. The Rams lost out on the top and mid-tier edge rushers available, so they entered the free agency market needing to add an edge rusher and will exit with the same need. There’s also a clear need along the interior of the defensive line now that Aaron Donald has retired. They had to strengthen the position prior to the retirement, but it is currently the most worrying hole on the roster.
Although the Rams won’t be able to sign him for as little money as they did the previous season, his cap cost shouldn’t be too high. Though he is probably seeking for a longer-term deal as he approaches the conclusion of his career, Witherspoon would provide the Rams with what they need with a modest 1-year, $3 million agreement.
