CB Xavien Howard, a free agent, ‘would love’ to play for his hometown Texans.
Xavien Howard, a free agency cornerback, said no to a reunion with Miami, although he would appreciate the chance to play in his hometown again.
Howard, a Houston native who attended Baylor University and played high school ball at Wheatley, recently stated on The OGs Podcast with Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller that he would love to play for the Texans again in his hometown. The interview was recorded prior to the start of free agency but was posted on Tuesday.
“I’d adore to carry that out. In particular, the crib at home,” Howard remarked, as reported by the Houston Chronicle. Although I wouldn’t say I’ve always supported the Houston Texans, I do support them during the offseason. It’s been tattooed on me. Even the Texans and Houston Rockets emblems were tattooed on me.”
Lately, the Texans signed C.J. Henderson and Jeff Okudah, two inexpensive corners who were both selected in the third round and previously in the first round. With nickel Desmond King and standout Derek Stingley Jr., Houston might already be loaded at the corner.
Howard stated he would accept a smaller contract to join a contender like Houston, which is rising after winning the AFC South the previous season, after the Dolphins had three postseason appearances but no wins in eight seasons.
“I’d rather take a pay cut to go to a team that’s going to go further in the playoffs,” Howard stated. “I have my money and other belongings. ‘How much money do you truly need?’ is how direct I am.
“Achieving a Super Bowl victory is always my objective. Avoid letting financial gain stand in the way of your Super Bowl victory. A Super Bowl is won by some people, and some people are compensated. A few people engage in both. You are unique; you do both. I wish to stand apart. Now, I want to win the Super Bowl. I’m looking forward to the Super Bowl because I already got paid.”
Howard was waived by the Dolphins early in the offseason. The four-time Pro Bowler, who turns 31 in July, had a lackluster season by his standards but is still capable of playing. Howard will find a place to land in a league that is constantly in need of CBs. It may occur later on in the procedure.
