Done Deal: Just In New Orleans Saints Confirm the Signing Of Another Top Experienced Star

There is no doubt that the QB depth of the New Orleans Saints is adequate at this time.

On Friday, New Orleans declared that they and veteran quarterback Kellen Mond had reached an agreement. Now, the 24-year-old Mond is joining his fourth NFL squad.

The Minnesota Vikings selected Mond, a former Texas A&M standout, in the third round of the 2021 draft (at choice No. 66 overall), however he was discarded in 2022 after making just one game for the team. He then played a portion of the previous season on the practice squad of the Indianapolis Colts before spending the following season with the Cleveland Browns.

The Saints quarterback’s room is already very packed. With Derek Carr starting, Mond will have competition for the backup quarterback position from Jake Haener and fellow rookie Nathan Peterman. Taysom Hill is still there, too, though it’s clear that he’s less of a genuine quarterback now and more of a gadget guy who can also play running back or tight end.

All of those guys seem unlikely to make it through the final roster cuts. However, Mond will have the chance to try to stand out from the crowd in New Orleans since he still has some detractors to silence.
