Breaking News: Texas Longhorns Football Confirm Their Ninth Depature

Players that sign with a new program in the same summer frequently re-enter the transfer portal. This time, it’s a linebacker from the 2021 recruiting class who was ranked in the top 10.

During his three seasons as a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Kendrick Blackshire totaled 25 tackles, including two for loss. He declared his offseason commitment to the Texas Longhorns after logging into the transfer site.
The Longhorns needed to replace important players like Jaylan Ford and Jett Bush, who both filed for the NFL Draft, so this was a huge addition for them.

Texas needed a boost of leadership at linebacker even though the Longhorns have acquired a solid class of recruits in recent years. But after only a few months with the Longhorns, he’s made the decision to use the gateway once more.
As of now this spring, Texas has lost nine athletes to the transfer portal. Blackshire is joined by EDGE J’Mond Tapp, EDGE Billy Walton, defensive lineman Zac Swanson, cornerback Terrance Brooks, running back Savion Red, offensive lineman Payton Kirkland, and cornerback Austin Jordan.

While some could contend that the Longhorns are purging guys from the school, Texas will require a number of young players to assume significant roles in the upcoming year.
