Good News: Just In Avalanche sign Another Top Experienced Star

Oshawa Generals forward Cal Ritchie has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Colorado Avalanche, marking a significant step in his promising hockey career. The 19-year-old has been a standout performer in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), where he played 50 games for the Generals last season. During this time, Ritchie achieved a career-high 28 goals and 80 points. His impressive 1.60 point-per-game average was the sixth best among OHL skaters, highlighting his offensive prowess and consistency.

Ritchie’s exceptional play continued into the postseason, where the Oakville, ON., native recorded 30 points in just 21 games. This outstanding performance placed him second in OHL Playoffs scoring and was instrumental in leading the Generals to the OHL Championship Series. His ability to elevate his game during crucial moments has made him a highly regarded player in the league.

Selected as the second overall pick in the 2021 OHL Draft, Ritchie has consistently demonstrated his talent and potential. Over his OHL career with the Generals, he has amassed 184 points in 174 games, showcasing his scoring ability and playmaking skills. His achievements have not gone unnoticed; he was named to the OHL First All-Rookie Team in 2022. That same year, he represented Canada at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, where he won a gold medal and tied for the tournament lead with 10 points. Ritchie’s international success continued with a bronze medal at the 2023 U18 World Championships.

The Colorado Avalanche recognized Ritchie’s potential and selected him 27th overall in the 2023 NHL Draft. By signing this entry-level contract, the Avalanche are investing in a young player with a proven track record of success at both the junior and international levels. Ritchie’s combination of skill, determination, and experience makes him a valuable addition to the Avalanche organization as he embarks on his professional hockey journey.
