Barnsley return to League One action this Saturday when they travel to Leyton Orient. They took a weekend off owing to international call-ups.

Lopata and Cundy, the centre-back duo, are both now injured. Meanwhile, midfielder Connell has been out with an illness.

According to the Barnsley Chronicle, ‘none’ are anticipated to return against the O’s. Last season, Richie Wellens’ side was promoted from League Two.

Barnsley recruited Lopata in the summer to bolster their defense. The 22-year-old former Poland youth international was on Sheffield United’s books from 2020 to 2022.

He went on to make two appearances for the Blades’ first team. After leaving Brighton & Hove Albion, he spent time in non-league with Woking and Southend United before joining the Tykes.

Cundy, who joined Oakwell in 2022, appeared 31 times in all competitions last season under former manager Michael Duff. Prior to joining South Yorkshire, he played for Oxford United and Bristol City.

Meanwhile, Connell has been a big hit at Barnsley since his arrival last year, helping them reach the third-tier play-off final last season.

The former Bolton Wanderers and Celtic player will be eager to return to action as soon as possible. His eventual return will be a significant boon.

After a solid start to the season under Neill Collins, the Tykes are third in the table. They trail second-place Oxford by five points and leaders Portsmouth by six.
