Good News: Tennessee adds Another Top Star from transfer portal

Big pickup: Tennessee adds Darlinstone Dubar from the transfer portal.

This afternoon, Tennessee secured a significant commitment by acquiring Darlinstone Dubar from Hofstra through the transfer portal. During his third season with the team, the 6-8 wing averaged 17.8 points for Hofstra.

Dubar announced the news on social media.

Dubar attended Iowa State for a season before transferring to Hofstra. He will be eligible to play for the Vols for one season as a graduate transfer.

The native of Charlotte will assist Rick Barnes, who is trying to replace All-American guard Dalton Knecht, in replacing a lot of offense in the upcoming campaign. In addition, Barnes will have to start in place of Jonas Aidoo, Santiago Vescovi, Josiah-Jordan James, and maybe Tobe Awaka. Awaka and Aidoo are both present on the transfer portal; however, Awaka might come back after Aidoo’s arrival.

For the previous two seasons, Dubar’s three-point percentage was 40%. This season, he added 6.8 rebounds per game, 0.9 blocks, and 1.2 steals. He gives a roster that desperately needs both length and shooting some much-needed shooting.

Last season, Dubar scored 20 or more points in 12 games and 25 or more in 4.

Over the weekend, Dubar paid an official visit to Tennessee. Guard Cade Tyson, who is transferring from Belmont and scheduled to visit North Carolina the next weekend, joined him.

In the current scenario, the Volunteers would have five available scholarships if Dubar signed with Tennessee. Expect the transfer portal news to continue rolling in over the next few weeks, as Tennessee still needs help at almost every position.

Estimated starting lineup for New Tennessee
PG Zakai Zeigler, SF Darlinstone Dunbar, SG Jordan Gainey, SG Jahmai Mashack, and C JP Estrella

Bench: SG Cam Carr, PF Cade Phillips, CG Bishop Boswell
