Ja’Tavion Sanders, an NFL Draft prospect, talks about his mindset going into the NFL and how the Cowboys would be a great fit.
One of the best tight end prospects in this year’s draft is Ja’Tavion Sanders of the Texas Longhorns.
The record-breaking Brock Bowers of the University of Georgia is regarded as the best player at his position, and the 21-year-old tight end is likely the second best. With the Longhorns, 6-foot-4, 245-pound Sanders had a career filled with record-breaking moments. He broke the school record for single-season receptions (54 in 2022) and receiving yards (682 in 2023).
Sanders is regarded as a versatile prospect at the position and is expected to be chosen in the second round of the draft. He will be among the league’s lightest tight ends upon arrival at 245 pounds. But he’s a strong receiving danger because of his versatility and ability to outpace opponents when lining up in different situations.
In addition to his achievements, the Texas native is well-known for his outstanding defense play right out of high school. In college, Sanders could have easily played defensive end. At Denton Ryan High School, he was an All-American on both sides of the ball, a unanimous five-star recruit, and one of Texas’ top five players.
Sanders outlines why his prior defensive end expertise will be beneficial to him as he develops into an NFL tight end.
“Without a doubt,” Sanders responds in a one-on-one, sit-down interview. “Going up against tight ends while playing defense in high school.” Just being aware of the languages that tight ends prefer to utilize and how they like to block.
Sanders naturally names the Dallas Cowboys, his local team, as one of numerous teams on which he’d be a fantastic match.
The Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins, and Kansas City Chiefs are among the teams he names as possible matches for his skill set.
Sanders believes, “The Cowboys would be a great fit.” “The Eagles, Broncos, Bills, Dolphins, and Chiefs—they’re the back-to-back Super Bowl champions.”
Dallas is located less than an hour away from Denton, where Sanders rose to prominence on both sides of the ball in high school. Sanders met with the Cowboys last week while on a top-30 visit. Private meetings with the prospect comprise the Top 30 visits.
